Get started with Toscio
Toscio turns your Discord server into an application desk: members click Apply, answer your questions, and your staff accept or decline in one click. This page takes you from zero to your first application in about two minutes.
Before you start
You need:
- the Manage Server permission on the Discord server (owners have it by default);
- a text channel where members will see the Apply button (for example
#apply); - a channel only your staff can see, where applications will arrive (for example
#applications); - the role you want to give when someone is accepted (for example
Whitelisted,ModeratororMember).
You can create these channels and the role in Discord before or after adding the bot.
1. Add Toscio to your server
- Go to toscio.com and click Add to Discord.
- Pick your server in the list. Only servers where you have Manage Server show up.
- Keep every permission checked and click Authorize.
Toscio only asks for the seven permissions it needs, never Administrator. See Permissions for what each one is for.
2. Move Toscio's role up
Discord only lets a bot give roles that are below its own role. This is the most common setup mistake, so do it now:
- Open Server Settings → Roles.
- Drag the Toscio role above the role you want to give on acceptance.
- Save.
If you skip this step,
/toscio setupstill works but warns you, and accepting an application will fail with: "Could not give the role: in Server Settings → Roles, move the bot's role above the role to give, then try again."
3. Run /toscio setup
In any channel of your server, type /toscio setup and fill in the options:
| Option | Required | What to pick |
|---|---|---|
template |
Yes | What the applications are for: one of the 10 templates below. |
channel |
Yes | Where members click "Apply". A text or announcement channel your future members can see. |
staff-channel |
Yes | Where staff receive and review applications. Ideally a private channel. |
role |
Yes | The role given when an application is accepted. It can't be @everyone or a role managed by Discord or another bot (like a booster or bot role). |
staff-role |
No | The role that reviews applications. It is mentioned on each new application and can accept or decline. |
Press Enter. A few seconds later, Toscio replies (only you can see it) with a summary:
- where the panel was posted,
- where applications will be sent,
- which role is given on acceptance,
- and any warning, for example if the role is above Toscio's role.
The form takes the language of your Discord client when you run
/toscio setup. Run it from Discord in English to get the English template, in French to get the French one, and so on for Toscio's other languages.
Which template should I pick?
Each template comes with questions, a panel text and an acceptance message already written. On the free plan, the first 5 questions are used; Premium adds the remaining ones.
- RP whitelist: age, character name, RP experience, backstory, rules knowledge. See the FiveM whitelist use case.
- Minecraft whitelist: exact username, Java or Bedrock, age, motivation, plans on the server. See the Minecraft whitelist use case.
- Staff recruitment: age, availability, moderation experience, motivation, a conflict scenario. See staff applications.
- Team / esport recruitment: in-game name and rank, role, age, practice availability, competitive experience. See esports team recruitment.
- Guild / clan recruitment (MMO): character and server, class or role, level or gear score, raid experience, availability. See guild recruitment.
- MilSim unit recruitment: in-game name, age, time zone, MilSim experience, availability for operations. See MilSim unit recruitment.
- Member application (server access): name, age, introduction, motivation, rules acknowledgement. Pair it with a Member role that unlocks your channels. See member applications.
- Partnership requests: server name, invite link, member count, description, offer. See partnership requests.
- Creator / streamer program: creator name, channel link, audience, posting rhythm, content ideas. See creator program.
- Beta testers: platform, setup or device, weekly hours, testing experience, motivation. See beta tester applications.
You can change every question later in the form editor, including turning one into a single choice, checkboxes or a file upload.
What Toscio posts
In your panel channel: a message with the panel title, a short text and an 📝 Apply button. On the free plan it has a small "Powered by Toscio" footer.
In your staff channel: nothing yet. Each application will arrive there as a card with the answers and three buttons: Accept, Decline and Interview. See Reviewing applications.
4. Test it yourself
Do a full run before announcing it:
- Click Apply in the panel channel.
- Answer the questions and submit. With more than 5 questions, you'll see "Step 1/2 saved" and a Continue button.
- You get: "✅ Application sent! The staff will review it and you will get the answer by direct message."
- Open your staff channel: your application card is there.
- Click Accept or Decline and check the direct message you receive.
Testing twice? After a decline, you have to wait for the cooldown (24 hours by default) before applying again. After an acceptance, you can't apply while you still have the role. Remove the role from yourself, or set the cooldown to 0 in the form editor while testing.
5. Next steps
- Customize the form: log in to the dashboard at app.toscio.com with Discord and open "Forms". Change the questions and their type (text, choices, checkboxes, files), and set conditions to apply, like a minimum account age against alt accounts. The dashboard follows your browser language (8 languages available) and has a language menu in the top bar. See Form editor.
- Review from anywhere: decide in Discord or in the dashboard's "Applications" page. Both stay in sync.
- Need more questions or forms, staff votes, CSV export or a web form? See Premium and voting, or type
/toscio votefor 12 hours of Premium. Ban appeals are covered in Web form and ban appeals. - Something not working? Check Troubleshooting or ask on the support server.
Writing good questions matters as much as the bot. For ideas, read how to make a Discord application form.
Questions
Do I need the dashboard to get started?
No. /toscio setup creates a working form from a template and posts the Apply panel. The dashboard at app.toscio.com is where you edit questions, texts and roles afterwards.
Can I run /toscio setup again?
Yes. Running /toscio setup again with the same template updates the channels and roles and reposts the panel. Your questions and texts are not touched.
Is Toscio free?
Yes. The free plan includes one form with up to 5 questions, every question type (text, choices, checkboxes, file uploads) and conditions to apply. Premium adds more forms and questions, staff votes, CSV export and the web form for €4.99/month per server.
